The Walter Art Gallery is pleased to present an exhibit of paintings by Barb Goldberg. The show is titled “The Watcher” in a nod to a Buddhist teaching. Goldberg says, “We are all the energy that watches, regardless of what is happening around us. When we watch as a third party, we cannot get caught up in it in a negative way.” We all have plans for our lives, but those plans must necessarily evolve with circumstances. Goldberg notes: “When I face the canvas, I know exactly where the journey will start. Although my plan is clear from the beginning, I always end up in a different place: just like our lives. There is always turmoil or movement in my artwork, and the colors are mixed in a way that they can never be reproduced.”
Goldberg’s art reflects her love of color and minimalistic abstraction. After a career in corporate America, Barb decided to dive into her love of art full time. She paints in acrylic as well as multi-media elements. Each piece can take months to produce as they have thick textures and multiple layers.
Goldberg’s paintings have been shown at MonOrchid Gallery, The Walter Art Gallery, Mayo Hospital, Xanadu Gallery, Herberger Theater, PopHealth Corporation, Roche Tissue Diagnostics Gallery and the Shemer Art Gallery in Phoenix, Tucson and Scottsdale. Her pieces have been purchased by corporations and private collectors. She has had several one-woman shows at the Arizona State Downtown Library, JCC Art Gallery as well as the Pita Jungle Restaurant Company. Goldberg was selected by famed artist, Ed Mell, as one of the top artists at the Scottsdale Community College Annual Art Show. Her other awards include 2017 and 2018 Vortex Award, Scottsdale, Arizona; Best of Artist SCC 2015, 2017, 2018; Artists of Promise Award 2015, 2017 and 2018; Best Student Work, Shemer Art Gallery.
“The Watcher” will be on display from July 19 to August 16, 2019.
